LONG BEACH, CA – A 34-year-old woman was left with severe facial fractures and other significant injuries after being ambushed and robbed following a World Cup watch party in downtown Long Beach.
Violent Ambush Outside Hooters
The victim, identified as Jennifer Silva, told authorities that the incident occurred just outside of the Hooters restaurant in downtown Long Beach. After finishing a soccer matchup watch party, an unknown suspect approached her and demanded her belongings.
“The last thing I remember from that point was someone pulling on my bag and saying, ‘I’m going to need that,'” Silva recalled.
The robber beat Silva mercilessly to steal her property. The violent assault left her with a broken jaw, a dislocated wrist, a fractured finger, lost teeth, and multiple deep cuts and bruises.
Onlookers Fail to Intervene
In a heartbreaking detail shared by the victim, multiple bystanders allegedly witnessed the aftermath of the violent attack but chose not to help or call emergency services.
“There were crowds around me and nobody called 911,” Silva said. “Nobody helped me. I got attacked violently and I don’t know why.”
Long Beach Police officers eventually discovered the injured woman about 30 minutes after the assault and arranged for her immediate transport to a nearby hospital.
Long Road to Recovery
Due to the severity of the beating, Silva requires extensive reconstructive jaw surgery and multiple dental procedures. Family and friends have set up a crowdfunding effort to help manage the mounting medical bills.
The Long Beach Police Department has launched an active investigation into the robbery and assault. As of this time, no suspect descriptions have been released, and no arrests have been made.
