Stephenville, Texas — A devastating early morning crash has left a North Texas community in shock after a vehicle slammed into a home, killing a woman and her young son as they slept.
Authorities say the incident happened just before dawn on Sunday, turning a quiet neighborhood into a scene of tragedy.
Deadly crash into home during early morning hours
According to the Stephenville Police Department, officers responded around 3:26 a.m. to a home on North Ollie Street after reports of a vehicle crashing into the residence.
When first responders arrived, they found multiple people injured and rushed them to a nearby hospital.
“Despite life-saving efforts, two victims were pronounced dead,” officials confirmed.
Victims identified by family
Family members identified the victims as Barbara Rocha and her 7-year-old son, Alex.
Authorities say the mother and child were sleeping in a bedroom when the vehicle crashed directly into the home.
“They were inside the house when the crash occurred,” officials said.
The sudden loss has left the family and community grieving.
Driver arrested, facing charges
Police say the driver, identified as 18-year-old Gracie Yates, has been taken into custody.
She is facing two counts of criminally negligent homicide, according to authorities.
“The suspect is currently being held in jail with bonds totaling $29,000.”
