Parents Demand Answers After 4-Month-Old Infant Murdered At Claremont Daycare

CLAREMONT, CA – The heartbroken parents of a 4-month-old baby girl who died following a violent assault at a Claremont daycare facility are demanding justice and calling for the business to be permanently shut down.

The Incident

On June 29, Claremont Police Department officers responded to a medical emergency in the 1400 block of Lynoak Drive around 11:30 a.m. Upon arrival, investigators determined that a teenager inside the residence had thrown the infant to the floor.

The baby, identified as Troy May Elaine Cohn, suffered severe injuries including a fractured head and widespread bruising. She was rushed to Pomona Valley Hospital and later transferred to the Children’s Hospital of Orange County, where she tragically succumbed to her injuries.

Suspect Charged With Murder

The 17-year-old male suspect was arrested at the scene and booked at Los Padrinos Juvenile Hall. The Los Angeles County District Attorney’s Office has officially charged the minor with murder. Due to his age, his identity has not been released.

Allegations Of Daycare Negligence

The infant’s parents, Jasmyne Cohn and Anthony Owens, believe daycare staff left their defenseless daughter unsupervised with the teenager.

The facility is reportedly intended only for children aged 8 and younger. It remains unclear why the teenager, who has autism, was present at the facility. The family believes he may have been under the supervision of the daycare owner.

“I lost my daughter due to the negligence of this daycare,” Jasmyne Cohn stated, emphasizing that the teenager should never have been allowed around young children. The infant’s grandmother, Andrea Holcomb, also questioned how such an environment was permitted.

Call For Justice

The teenage suspect was arraigned on Thursday and remains in custody. While the legal process moves forward, the devastated parents are continuing their push to hold the facility accountable. A community fundraiser has been organized to assist the family with unexpected funeral and medical expenses.
