Simi Valley Target Suspect Charged With Attempted Murder

SIMI VALLEY, CA – A 34-year-old man faces attempted murder charges following a violent, random attack inside a Simi Valley Target store that left multiple shoppers injured.

The Attack and Intervention

According to the Ventura County District Attorney’s Office, Rejean Tabor entered the Target at 51 Tierra Rejada Road around 6:00 p.m. on June 17. Investigators say Tabor approached a woman from behind and began strangling her while covering her face.

As the victim struggled, several shoppers rushed to intervene. During the chaos, Tabor allegedly:

  • Pushed a woman to the ground who was trying to pull him away.
  • Bited, struck, and scratched another shopper helping the victim.
  • Threw a glass bottle at a store loss prevention employee.
  • Attacked a 16-year-old customer from behind.

Target employees immediately initiated an emergency evacuation of the store as the violent struggle unfolded in the clothing section.

Prior Release and Arrest

New details reveal that Tabor had been released from custody on mandatory supervision from two prior criminal cases for less than 24 hours before the incident occurred.

Responding Simi Valley police officers located Tabor in the grocery section, where he was allegedly throwing merchandise, and took him into custody. Several customers were treated for minor injuries at the scene. The primary female victim, who did not know Tabor, was hospitalized in stable condition.

Court Proceedings Suspended

Tabor has been charged with felony willful, deliberate, premeditated attempted murder, alongside multiple charges for the attacks on the Good Samaritans.

During his first court appearance, criminal proceedings were abruptly suspended after the defense declared a doubt regarding Tabor’s mental competency. He remains held in custody on $750,000 bail pending a formal competency hearing scheduled for July 16, 2026.
