Rescue Crews Search Ohio River For Missing Kayaker

NEW RICHMOND, OH – A massive search-and-rescue operation is underway along the Ohio River after a kayaker was reported missing on Thursday afternoon.

Emergency Response Near Route 52

Clermont County dispatchers confirmed that first responders were called to the riverbanks just off U.S. Route 52 in New Richmond at approximately 4:30 p.m.

According to New Richmond Fire and EMS, the incident quickly escalated, requiring multiple mutual aid agencies to rush to the scene to assist in the emergency response.

Sonar Technology Deployed

Emergency crews have deployed several rescue boats to search the water. The search zone is currently focused on a three-mile stretch of the river between Mile Markers 446 and 449.

To assist in the underwater search, police confirmed that crews are utilizing specialized sonar equipment to help locate the missing individual as quickly as possible.

Authorities have not yet released the identity, age, or gender of the missing kayaker, nor have they detailed the circumstances leading up to the disappearance. The search remains active, and local residents are asked to avoid the immediate riverfront area to allow rescue vessels clear access.
