Road Rage Stabbing Racine Man Faces 15 Years After Brutal Altercation Over Turn Signal

RACINE, WI — A brief, seven-second fight on a Wisconsin street has led to a local man facing over a decade behind bars. Chad L. Norton, 28, is currently facing multiple felony charges after a road rage incident escalated into a violent stabbing that sent another driver to the hospital.

The incident, which occurred near the popular North Beach area, highlights a terrifying trend of road rage violence in local communities.

The Spark: A Dispute Over a Turn Signal

According to court records and police reports, the violence began just before 7 p.m. on April 23. The victim and his girlfriend were leaving North Beach when they were allegedly cut off by a vehicle driven by Norton.

Witnesses say Norton began shouting at the victim, reportedly yelling, “Don’t you know how to use your f—ing turn signal!”

The situation escalated when the two vehicles pulled up next to each other near 12th Street and Washington Avenue. After an exchange of words and threats, both men exited their vehicles. What happened next lasted only seconds but changed both of their lives forever.

Seven Seconds of Violence

Police say the physical altercation lasted only about seven seconds. The victim admitted to throwing several punches during the fight but told investigators he never even saw a weapon. It wasn’t until he returned to his car that he realized he was bleeding heavily.

The victim was forced to drive himself to Ascension All Saints Hospital, where doctors treated him for multiple puncture wounds and deep lacerations to his chest and arm.

The Evidence and Arrest

Investigators reviewed video footage of the fight, which reportedly showed Norton making distinct “stabbing motions” during the scuffle. When taken into custody, Norton allegedly told officers:

  • He carries a folding knife regularly.
  • He claimed he didn’t remember pulling it but was trying to stab the victim’s hand to “get him away” from him.

Legal Fallout: Facing 15+ Years

During his arraignment on April 29, Norton entered a plea of not guilty. However, the legal road ahead is steep. He has been charged with:

  1. Aggravated Battery (with intent to cause great bodily harm).
  2. First-Degree Recklessly Endangering Safety.

Both charges include modifiers for the use of a dangerous weapon. If convicted on the aggravated battery charge alone, Norton could face more than 15 years in prison.

Currently, Norton is out on a $5,000 cash bond with strict conditions: he is prohibited from possessing any weapons and must have zero contact with the victim. His next status conference is scheduled for June 2.

Community Safety Alert

Road rage incidents are on the rise across Wisconsin. Local authorities remind drivers to never engage with aggressive motorists and to call 911 rather than exiting your vehicle.

What do you think, Racine? Was a $5,000 bond too low for a stabbing incident? Have you noticed drivers becoming more aggressive near the North Beach area?
