Scorching Heat Wave Peaks In Connecticut Before Major Cool Down

HARTFORD, CT – Connecticut residents face one final day of intense heat and potential severe weather on Wednesday before a dramatic temperature drop sweeps across the region for the weekend.

Wednesday Forecast: High Heat And Humidity

Wednesday will bring mostly sunny skies with high temperatures soaring between 88 and 93 degrees. Coupled with rising humidity, conditions will feel distinctly uncomfortable throughout the afternoon.

However, relief is on the horizon as an incoming weather front prepares to break the current heat wave.

Afternoon Thunderstorm Risk

As the cold front moves in, there is a distinct chance for scattered afternoon thunderstorms. While the overall severe weather risk remains low, authorities warn that a stronger storm cannot be entirely ruled out.

  • Primary Threat: Damaging, gusty winds.
  • Most Vulnerable Area: Southern Connecticut has the highest probability of seeing stronger storm development due to the specific timing of the front.

Dramatic Drop To The 60s

Following the afternoon storms, another batch of rain is expected to develop overnight and persist into Thursday morning.

Once the morning rain clears, a much cooler air mass will settle over the state. High temperatures on Thursday and Friday will struggle to leave the 60s, marking a massive 20-to-30-degree drop from Wednesday’s peak heat.
