LOS ANGELES, CA – California Highway Patrol (CHP) officers arrested a man early Friday morning believed to be responsible for a series of terrifying car-to-car shootings along the 405 Freeway in South Los Angeles.
The Arrest
The suspect, identified as Martin Moreno-Pacheco, was taken into custody at approximately 3:40 a.m. Following a brief traffic stop, investigators located Moreno-Pacheco driving the black pickup truck linked to the crimes.
Inside the passenger compartment of the vehicle, officers discovered a loaded BB gun, according to CHP officials.
Pattern of Freeway Shootings
The arrest follows an intensive investigation into three separate incidents that occurred over the past week. Remarkably, no injuries were reported in any of the encounters:
- May 22: The first connected shooting occurred on the freeway.
- May 23: A victim reported their vehicle was damaged near Wilmington Avenue.
- May 28: Another car-to-car shooting was reported south of Vermont Avenue, resulting in further vehicular damage.
CHP detectives successfully matched the vehicle description—a black pickup truck—across the incidents to link them to a single suspect.
How to Report Information
The investigation is ongoing, and authorities believe there may be additional victims who have not yet come forward.
Anyone who witnessed these shootings or believes their vehicle was targeted is urged to contact the CHP South Los Angeles Area office at (424) 551-4000.
