Teen Arrested After Allegedly Shooting Father Inside Plano Home, Police Say

A teenage boy is in custody after police say he shot his father inside their northwest Plano home Monday morning, following what authorities described as a domestic family dispute.

According to the Plano Police Department, officers responded to a report of a shooting around 8:25 a.m. in the 4500 block of Sandy Water Lane. Investigators said the emergency call was placed by the victim himself, who told dispatchers that his teenage son had shot him inside the residence.

Police officials confirmed that the father sustained gunshot injuries but was transported to a nearby hospital with wounds that were not considered life-threatening. His condition was described as stable later in the morning.

When officers arrived at the scene, the 15-year-old suspect was still inside the home. Authorities said he was taken into custody without resistance.

“Almost immediately after officers made contact, the juvenile was detained safely,” said Jerry Minton, a public information officer with the Plano Police Department.

Police confirmed that the firearm involved in the incident was recovered from the home. However, investigators have not yet determined who owned the weapon or how the teenager gained access to it. That aspect of the case remains under investigation.

Authorities emphasized that the shooting appears to be the result of an internal family matter rather than a broader public safety threat.

“This is being handled as a family issue,” Minton said. “At this time, the motive is unclear, but it involves a father and son.”

The teen was scheduled to be transported Monday afternoon to the Collin County Juvenile Detention Center, where he is expected to appear before a juvenile court judge. Possible charges have not yet been formally announced.

Neighbors in the quiet residential area expressed shock after seeing a heavy police presence outside the home.

“I just noticed several police vehicles lining the street,” said Karthik Mahadevan, who lives nearby. “The family always seemed calm. We would see them occasionally during walks, but nothing ever seemed out of the ordinary.”

Police said there is no ongoing danger to the surrounding community and that the scene was secured shortly after officers arrived.

The investigation remains active as detectives continue to review evidence and interview those involved.
