A viral TikTok money-saving hack backfired spectacularly for an influencer after her video about smuggling alcohol onboard led to a lifetime ban from Carnival Cruise Line.
The Viral ‘Boozey Scam’
The incident began after TikTok influencer Courtney Murley returned from a vacation on the Carnival Conquest. She posted a video showing her cruise companion unpacking a suitcase filled with liquor that had been hidden inside tampon wrappers and shampoo bottles to evade ship security.
Murley captioned the video, bragging that the trick worked and suggesting future passengers could “forget a drink package.” The video quickly gained hundreds of thousands of views, eventually catching the attention of Carnival’s corporate security team.
The Lifetime Ban Letter
Carnival Cruise Line took immediate action, issuing an official letter to Murley banning her from all future sailings.
According to the letter shared by the influencer, Carnival stated she is prohibited from boarding any of their vessels due to the smuggling of alcohol on the March 31, 2025 sailing, and subsequently broadcasting the violation on social media. The cruise line warned that any future booking attempts would result in automatic cancellation and a potential loss of deposit money.
Influencer Claims It Was ‘For Views’
After receiving the lifetime ban, Murley posted a follow-up video backpedaling on her original claims. She stated that the entire smuggling stunt was fake and done “all for the views.” She also dismissed the punishment by adding that she preferred rival cruise lines Royal Caribbean and MSC anyway.
Carnival Cruise Line maintains strict policies regarding outside alcohol to ensure guest safety and regulate onboard revenue. The incident serves as a stark reminder for travelers that breaking cruise line rules—or pretending to do so for social media engagement—can carry permanent consequences.
