Walmart Announces Massive Indiana Expansion 12 Stores Slated for Major Remodels in 2026

INDIANAPOLIS, IN — Retail giant Walmart has officially announced a sweeping modernization plan for its Indiana locations, part of a massive nationwide investment aimed at blending digital convenience with an upgraded in-store experience. The Arkansas-based retailer confirmed that 12 stores across the Hoosier State will undergo significant renovations this year to meet the evolving needs of modern shoppers.

The upgrades are part of Walmart’s 2026 initiative to remodel more than 650 Supercenters and Neighborhood Markets across the United States. In Indiana alone, the company has already poured over $536 million into store improvements over the past five years, signaling its long-term commitment to the region.

The “Store of the Future”: What’s Changing?

These aren’t just minor paint jobs. Walmart is aiming for what it calls a “connected” shopping experience. According to the company’s April 16 announcement, the remodeled stores will feature:

  • Elevated Brand Selection: Shoppers will now find premium brands like De’Longhi, Oura, Jessica Simpson, and Lemme directly on the shelves.
  • Interactive Displays: New technology will allow customers to “discover” products through digital touchpoints, making it easier to visualize how furniture or electronics will look in their homes.
  • Next-Gen Vision Centers & Pharmacies: Expect more privacy, expanded clinical services, and designer eyewear brands like Nike, Calvin Klein, and DKNY.
  • Neighborhood Market Upgrades: Local grocery-focused stores will see expanded delis, new hot bar selections, and improved lighting to make fresh food shopping more intuitive.

Is Your Local Store on the List?

The 2026 remodel list covers a wide geography, from Fort Wayne to the southern tip of the state. Here are the Indiana locations confirmed for the upgrade:

  • Indianapolis: Neighborhood Markets at 3805 S. Keystone Ave. and 5550 E. Fall Creek Parkway.
  • Fort Wayne: Two Supercenters at 5311 Coldwater Road and 1710 Apple Glen Boulevard.
  • Northern Indiana: Supercenters in Goshen (Elkhart Road) and Mishawaka (Indian Ridge Boulevard).
  • Central & Southern Indiana: Locations in Kokomo, Lebanon, Aurora, Columbia City, Corydon, and Linton.

Faster Shopping: Delivery in Under an Hour

One of the biggest drivers behind these remodels is the explosion of online grocery shopping. The new layouts are specifically designed to optimize Pickup and Delivery services.

“Our goal is simple: we want shopping to feel easy, intuitive, and connected,” the company stated. Most customers at these remodeled locations can expect delivery in less than an hour, thanks to reconfigured backrooms and dedicated online order fulfillment areas.

Will Stores Close During Construction?

For daily shoppers worried about disruption, Walmart has confirmed that all stores will remain open throughout the remodeling process. While some aisles may be temporarily shifted and construction zones will be visible, the company plans to complete the work in phases to ensure that pharmacy, grocery, and essential services remain accessible to the community.

In addition to these 12 remodels, Walmart also plans to open approximately 20 brand-new stores nationwide through early 2027, further cementing its lead in the retail space.
