Beaver Dam, Wisconsin — A shocking murder investigation in Wisconsin has taken a disturbing turn after authorities accused a husband of killing his wife, hiding her body, and later using her wedding ring to propose to a new girlfriend he met on Tinder.
The accused, Aaron Nelson, 43, was arrested Friday in connection with the disappearance and presumed death of his wife, Alexis Nelson, who has been missing for more than a year.
Wife Vanished After Last Public Sighting
According to investigators, the couple was last seen together on March 29, 2025, at a Kwik Trip convenience store in Beaver Dam, Wisconsin, where they shared an apartment.
Surveillance footage reportedly captured the pair together shortly before Alexis Nelson disappeared without a trace. Authorities later reviewed her phone records, which showed movement toward Sun Prairie, Wisconsin, located roughly 30 miles away.
Shortly after his wife vanished, investigators say Aaron Nelson purchased a 32-gallon trash can, a detail that later became central to the investigation.
Facebook Status Change Raises Suspicion
Just days after Alexis Nelson disappeared, authorities allege that Aaron Nelson created a new Facebook account under the name “James Nelson.”
According to reports, the profile listed his relationship status as “widowed,” despite no official confirmation of his wife’s death at the time.
The unusual online activity reportedly raised major concerns among investigators, especially as the missing person case continued with no signs of Alexis Nelson being found alive.
New Romance Moved Quickly
Authorities said Aaron Nelson met a new woman on Tinder on April 30, 2025, only weeks after his wife vanished.
Prosecutors claim the relationship escalated rapidly, with the couple allegedly moving in together by the end of May.
During interviews with police, investigators noticed something chilling — the woman was reportedly wearing an engagement ring later identified as belonging to Alexis Nelson.
That discovery intensified scrutiny surrounding the case and added another disturbing layer to the already shocking investigation.
Evidence Found During Investigation
In June, investigators reportedly located the 32-gallon trash can at the home shared by Aaron Nelson and his new fiancée.
Authorities later confirmed the container tested positive for Alexis Nelson’s blood.
Investigators also deployed a cadaver dog to search the property. According to officials, the dog detected the scent of decaying human remains inside a shed located on the property.
Despite extensive efforts, Alexis Nelson’s body has still not been found.
Murder Charges Filed Despite Missing Body
Even without recovering the victim’s remains, prosecutors moved forward with criminal charges against Aaron Nelson.
He now faces charges including first-degree intentional homicide and hiding a corpse, according to court records.
Following his arrest, he was booked into the Dodge County Jail and ordered held on a $1 million cash bond.
Authorities say he is expected back in court on May 28 as the investigation and legal proceedings continue.
The disturbing allegations have shocked the local community, with many questioning how the case unfolded unnoticed for so long.
