SUDBURY, UK – The Hamilton Road bus station in Sudbury is set for a major overhaul after Babergh District Council secured £250,000 in funding from the county council.
Desperately Needed Upgrades
The cash injection will be used to immediately address the site’s aging infrastructure “to better meet the needs of users.” Babergh District Council leader Deborah Saw stated that the funding supports short-term improvements that are “desperately needed” for local commuters.
The planned upgrades will focus on several key areas at the Hamilton Road site:
- Waiting Areas: Improving comfort and shelter for waiting passengers.
- Passenger Information: Updating timetables and digital displays.
- Station Layout: Redesigning the flow to improve safety and accessibility.
- Toilet Facilities: Upgrading and modernizing the existing public conveniences.
Long-Term Relocation Considered
While detailed plans and project timelines are still being developed, the council is also looking well into the future. A portion of the focus will go toward a comprehensive feasibility study to explore long-term options for the town’s transport hub.
According to council officials, this study will evaluate all possibilities for the bus station’s future. This ranges from completely reconfiguring the existing Hamilton Road layout to potentially relocating the bus station to an entirely new site in Sudbury.
