A 20-year-old man was shot in the head and killed Monday night in Philadelphia’s Frankford neighborhood, according to police.
The shooting occurred around 10 p.m. on the 1600 block of Brill Street. Officers and medics responded to reports of gunfire and arrived to find the victim seated in the driver’s seat of a Honda with a gunshot wound to the head. Police said the vehicle was still running when they arrived and had drifted into a pile of snow before coming to a stop.
The victim was transported to Jefferson Torresdale Hospital, where he was pronounced dead at 10:32 p.m., authorities said.
Investigators reported that surveillance video from the area shows two men wearing dark clothing running along Brill Street shortly after the shooting. Police also recovered two spent shell casings at the scene and determined that the victim’s vehicle had been struck by gunfire at least twice.
No arrests have been announced, and the identity of the victim has not yet been released pending notification of family members.
The shooting remains under active investigation as detectives work to determine a motive and identify those responsible. Police are reviewing additional surveillance footage from nearby homes and businesses and are asking anyone who may have witnessed the incident or has information to come forward.
Earlier the same night, police also responded to a separate shooting in Philadelphia’s Wissinoming neighborhood, where a man was wounded at a storage unit. Authorities have not indicated whether the two incidents are connected.
