BIRMINGHAM, AL — A quiet Monday night was shattered by a hail of gunfire in a Birmingham alleyway, leaving one man dead and another wounded in what police are investigating as a violent shootout.
The incident, which occurred in the 1500 block of Warrior Road, marks the city’s 14th homicide of the year and the second fatal shooting in less than 48 hours, highlighting a concerning spike in local violence.
A Hail of Gunfire
The violence erupted shortly after 8:30 p.m. on Monday. According to Birmingham Police Officer De’Rell Freeman, the city’s gunfire detection system, Shot Spotter, alerted authorities to a massive discharge of ammunition. Investigators believe at least 30 rounds were fired during the confrontation.
Police arrived to find two male victims at the scene. Both were rushed to UAB Hospital for emergency treatment:
- The Deceased: One victim was pronounced dead upon arrival. Early reports indicate he had been shot approximately seven times.
- The Survivor: The second victim sustained injuries that are reportedly non-life-threatening.
The Investigation at Warrior Road
In the hours following the shooting, police cordoned off the alleyway to process evidence. A vehicle was seen being loaded onto a tow truck as part of the ongoing investigation, though authorities have not yet confirmed if the vehicle belonged to the victims or a potential suspect.
While the motive behind the “possible shootout” remains under investigation, the sheer volume of rounds fired has left neighbors on edge. This latest tragedy follows another homicide that occurred just two days prior, bringing the city’s 2026 death toll to 14.

Birmingham investigators are currently canvassing the area for witnesses or surveillance footage that may have captured the suspects. As of Tuesday morning, no arrests have been made.
