Deadly Shootout at Harwin Drive Shopping Center Leaves 1 Dead, Multiple Detained

HOUSTON, TX — A violent confrontation involving multiple gunmen and vehicles turned a southwest Houston shopping center into a crime scene on Sunday evening. One person is dead, and several others are in custody as Houston Police (HPD) scramble to piece together a complex investigation.

The shooting broke out around 8:00 PM near the busy intersection of Harwin Drive and Fondren Road, a popular commercial hub in the area.

Gunfire Erupts Inside and Outside Vehicle

According to preliminary reports from HPD investigators, the incident began when a white Toyota pulled into a parking lot where a group of four individuals was gathered.

The situation turned deadly after two males entered a vehicle. While they were inside, gunfire erupted within the cabin. The violence quickly spilled out into the open as passengers exited the car and continued to exchange shots across the parking lot.

The aftermath of the shootout includes:

  • One Fatality: One individual was pronounced dead at the scene. HPD has not yet released the identity of the victim pending notification of next of kin.
  • Hospital Arrivals: Shortly after the incident, two individuals arrived at a nearby hospital seeking treatment for gunshot wounds.
  • Detentions: Police confirmed that the person who drove the wounded individual to the hospital, as well as the patient, have been detained for questioning.

Suspects on the Loose

While some individuals are in custody, authorities believe several others fled the scene immediately after the shots were fired. Police are currently reviewing surveillance footage from surrounding businesses at the Harwin-Fondren intersection to identify additional suspects and vehicles involved in the melee.

HPD has seized the white Toyota involved in the initial confrontation. While the vehicle is in police custody, officials noted that the contents have not yet been fully processed for forensic evidence.
