MONTGOMERY COUNTY, Md. — Seven people were taken to area hospitals Saturday afternoon following a crash involving a Ride On public transit bus and an adult day care van in Rockville, according to local fire officials.
The collision happened around 12:07 p.m. at the intersection of Shady Grove Road and Research Boulevard, a busy commercial corridor in Rockville. Emergency crews from Montgomery County Fire and Rescue Services responded to reports of a multi-vehicle crash with multiple occupants injured.
Mass Casualty Incident Declared at Scene
Due to the number of people involved, fire officials declared a Mass Casualty Incident (MCI), a protocol used when emergency responders must treat and transport several patients at once.
Authorities said six passengers from the adult day care van and the driver of the Ride On bus were transported to nearby hospitals for evaluation. Officials confirmed that none of the injuries were considered traumatic or life-threatening.
Emergency medical teams assessed patients on scene before transporting them, while additional crews assisted with traffic control and scene safety.
Traffic Disruptions and Road Closures
Traffic was temporarily diverted away from the intersection as first responders worked to treat victims and clear the roadway. Drivers in the area experienced delays while crews removed damaged vehicles and ensured the scene was safe for reopening.
By mid-afternoon, traffic patterns were gradually restored after the vehicles were cleared and emergency operations concluded.
Investigation Ongoing
Officials have not released details about what caused the crash, and it remains under investigation. No citations or charges have been announced at this time.
Authorities said further information may be released as investigators review the circumstances leading up to the collision.
Anyone who witnessed the crash or has additional information is encouraged to contact local authorities as the investigation continues.
