FAIRFIELD, Maine — A Fairfield man is recovering from life-threatening injuries after being struck by a vehicle Friday evening on a busy section of Main Street, according to local and state police.
Authorities say the crash happened just before 4:40 p.m. near the Post Office on Main Street in Fairfield. Investigators with the Fairfield Police Department reported that 49-year-old Dana Dodge was attempting to cross the roadway outside of a marked crosswalk at the time of the incident.
Police said Dodge was wearing dark clothing when he was hit by a vehicle driven by a 39-year-old Fairfield man. Emergency crews responded quickly and transported Dodge to MaineGeneral Medical Center. Due to the severity of his injuries, he was later transferred to Maine Medical Center, where he remains in critical condition.
The driver involved in the crash was not injured.
Investigators stated that speed and impairment are not believed to be contributing factors, and at this time, no charges have been filed. Officers noted that the incident appears to be an unfortunate accident under investigation.
The Maine State Police are assisting with the ongoing investigation to determine the full circumstances surrounding the crash.
Police are reminding pedestrians to use marked crosswalks whenever possible and to wear visible clothing, especially during low-light conditions common in winter months.
Community members have expressed concern and support for Dodge and his family, hoping for a full and speedy recovery as the investigation continues.
