Alumni Spotlight – Julie Oberhauser

Alumni+Spotlight+-+Julie+Oberhauser

Julie Oberhouser went to Mineral Point High School and graduated in 1986. After Mineral Point, Julie went to college for music education. The reason why she picked music education is because she really looked up to the music teachers at Mineral Point, and she loved to write and play music.

She went to UW-Lacrosse for her first year of college but then transferred to UW-Platteville for her second. She picked UW-Lacrosse because she had two sisters who went there and she loved the campus and the beauty of the city. But Tthe reason she transferred to UW-Platteville was because it was to be closer to home, and she felt that the music program was better than at UW-Lacrosse.

Julie now owns her own daycare in Mineral Point which she loves. She said, “My favorite part of being a daycare teacher is being with children. 3-year-olds bring me so much joy.” When I asked her what the most challenging part of her job is, she said, “Being sure I give each child the same amount of attention and making sure each child gains confidence and independence while in my program.”

Currently, Mrs.Oberhouser is also part of a group of people who are trying to get our local townships to pass health and safety licensing and ordinances related to wind energy systems.

She enjoys taking walks, riding bikes, spending time with her family and friends, playing piano, and reading. Her day-to-day is, she wakes up and walks 5 miles every morning. Then, she goes to work to teach preschoolers. They are also renovating a house in Madison which she enjoys working on.

When asked how the town of Mineral Point impacted her in her life, sShe said.”When I was younger, Mineral Point was a loving small farming community. I loved the nurturing feeling I felt when growing up. I learned the importance of looking out for one another and taking care of those in need. I knew that one day I would want to raise a family here.”

When asked what her favorite memory from Mineral Point school was, she said. “My favorite memory of Mineral Point school was spending time with my 7 very close friends. We had so much fun together. I also enjoyed playing on the varsity volleyball team and participating in all the music groups… band, choir, jazz band, and show choir.”
