Arlington, Texas – A Texas man has learned his fate after prosecutors say he kicked in the door of a family home and opened fire, killing two men and seriously injuring another family member during a violent late-night attack.
The shooting happened on April 10, 2022, at a residence on Ivy Hill Drive in Arlington, where several family members were gathered inside the home when the gunman forced his way in.
Authorities said 84-year-old Jack Nitsche was lying on a couch toward the back of the house when the suspect burst through the front door and began shooting.
Prosecutors told jurors that the elderly victim “never saw it coming” before he was fatally shot inside the home.
Gunman Kicked in Door and Opened Fire
According to investigators, the suspect forced entry into the home by kicking in the front door, immediately firing his weapon once inside.
Nitsche was struck by gunfire while lying on the couch and was pronounced dead at the scene when police arrived.
Prosecutors said the gunman then continued the attack, pursuing other family members who attempted to flee the house.
Victims Chased Into Front Yard
Authorities say the suspect chased Nitsche’s son, Stuart, and his 67-year-old mother out of the house as the shooting continued.
Prosecutors said the attacker fired repeatedly while chasing the victims into the front yard of the home.
When officers with the Arlington Police Department responded shortly after midnight on April 11, 2022, they found three victims suffering from gunshot wounds.
Nitsche was declared dead at the scene.
His son, Stuart, and the woman were rushed to a nearby hospital.
Sadly, Stuart later died from his injuries, while his mother survived the shooting.
Investigation Led to Arrest
Police spent weeks investigating the case before identifying a suspect.
About two months after the shooting, authorities announced the arrest of Rothenberg, who investigators said had been linked to the crime through evidence gathered during the investigation.
Detectives said evidence showed the suspect knew at least one of the victims before the deadly attack.
Officials have not publicly revealed a clear motive for the shootings.
Prosecutors Describe Attack as Brutal
During the trial, prosecutors described the shooting as a deliberate and violent act.
“This is not just a killing,” Assistant District Attorney Tad Schmidt told jurors. “This is a brutal homicide by someone who came to kill that night.”
Authorities said the attack devastated the family and left the Arlington community shaken.
The case highlights the lasting impact of violent home invasions, which often occur suddenly and without warning.

Community Still Processing the Tragedy
Investigators confirmed that all three victims were members of the same family, making the incident even more devastating for relatives and loved ones.
Police said the surviving victim was able to provide key details during the investigation.
Officials have not released further details about sentencing or additional legal proceedings related to the case.
