TAMPA, FL – A 28-year-old Tampa man is facing an attempted second-degree murder charge after authorities say he intentionally ran over his girlfriend with his vehicle during a violent domestic dispute.
The Altercation and Attack
According to the Hillsborough County Sheriff’s Office (HCSO), the incident occurred on June 12 on East 138th Avenue. Investigators state that Levi Stevenson, 28, and his girlfriend were involved in a heated argument.
When the woman attempted to call for help, Stevenson forcefully took her phone. The victim then walked away from the scene along the side of the road. Detectives allege that Stevenson intentionally steered his car off the roadway, struck her, and fled the scene.
Arrest and Additional Charges
Following a multi-day search, deputies arrested Stevenson on June 15. In addition to attempted second-degree murder, he has been charged with robbery by sudden snatching for taking the victim’s phone.
The victim was transported to a local hospital with non-life-threatening injuries and is expected to recover. Sheriff Chad Chronister commended the victim’s bravery, noting that cutting off a lifeline like a phone is a serious tactic used to isolate victims. Stevenson is presumed innocent until proven guilty in a court of law.
