Fort Pierce, Florida – A 65-year-old woman was killed Saturday afternoon after a vehicle lost control and crashed into a residential pool area, trapping her beneath the SUV, authorities said. The tragic incident occurred in a quiet neighborhood and is being described as a rare and devastating accident.
According to the Fort Pierce Police Department, officers responded around 2:10 p.m. on Feb. 7 to reports of a “vehicle versus pedestrian” crash on Laurel Leaf Lane. When officers arrived, they discovered that a black Jeep Grand Cherokee had veered off the roadway.
Vehicle Leaves Roadway, Crashes Into Pool Area
Investigators said the SUV first traveled through hedges and fencing before entering a backyard pool area, where 65-year-old Anastasia Fiona Allman had been sunbathing at the time. The vehicle continued moving through additional fencing and landscaping before striking the side of a nearby residence. During the crash, Allman became trapped underneath the vehicle.
Emergency responders from St. Lucie County Fire Rescue arrived at the scene to assist with the recovery operation. Despite their efforts, Allman was pronounced dead at the scene.
Authorities confirmed that Allman had been in the pool area when the vehicle broke through the barriers and struck her. Officials described the sequence of events as sudden and catastrophic.
Driver May Have Experienced Medical Episode
Police said preliminary findings suggest the 38-year-old woman driving the Jeep may have suffered a medical episode at the time of the crash. However, officials have not disclosed specific details about the nature of the suspected medical issue.
The driver was transported to a local hospital for evaluation and treatment. She has since been released and is reported to be in stable condition. Her identity has not been publicly released.
Investigators are continuing to examine the circumstances leading up to the crash, including what caused the vehicle to leave the roadway.
Neighbor Describes Chaotic Scene
A neighbor, Trigg Routh, who lives next to the pool area, described hearing a loud impact that shook his home. He said he rushed outside to see what had happened and found the vehicle embedded into the property.
Routh recalled seeing the driver unresponsive and immediately calling 911. He described the situation as chaotic and surreal, saying he was shouting into the phone in hopes that emergency responders would arrive faster. He called the crash “awful” and compared it to a freak accident, saying it felt as sudden and unpredictable as lightning striking.
Road Closures and Ongoing Investigation
Following the crash, portions of S. Lawnwood Circle were closed for several hours while officers conducted their investigation and emergency crews worked at the scene. Police confirmed that the investigation remains active and ongoing.
Authorities are asking anyone who may have witnessed the incident or who has additional information to contact the Fort Pierce Police Department at 772-467-6800.
The community remains shaken by the unexpected loss, as investigators continue working to determine exactly what led to the fatal crash.
