Bend, Oregon – A 54-year-old Crooked River Ranch man died Wednesday in a multi-vehicle crash on Interstate 205 in Clackamas County, according to the Oregon State Police. Authorities confirmed the crash occurred the same day a statewide felony warrant and “Be On the Lookout” alert had been issued for him.
The man was identified as Douglas Richard York, 54, who was also facing sentencing in connection with a 2025 armed robbery case in Redmond.
Crash on Interstate 205 Near West Linn
State police said the incident unfolded on Interstate 205 near West Linn after deputies with the Clackamas County Sheriff’s Office attempted to stop York for speeding. York was reportedly driving a 2002 Lexus at the time.
According to investigators, deputies initiated a pursuit when York failed to stop. During the chase, the Lexus rear-ended a Volkswagen Golf. The impact caused the Lexus to lose control and roll over on the highway.
Authorities said York was ejected from the vehicle during the rollover. Moments later, he was struck by a Toyota Corolla traveling in the area. Emergency responders arrived quickly, but York was pronounced dead at the scene.
The drivers of the Volkswagen and Toyota have not been publicly identified, and officials have not released details about any injuries they may have sustained. The crash prompted temporary traffic disruptions along the busy interstate corridor as investigators examined the scene.
Statewide Felony Warrant Issued Earlier That Day
Law enforcement officials later confirmed that York was the subject of a statewide felony warrant issued earlier Wednesday. A “Be On the Lookout” alert had also been distributed to agencies across Oregon in an effort to locate him.
The warrant stemmed from York’s failure to appear at a scheduled sentencing hearing related to an armed robbery case from October 31, 2025. The incident involved a robbery at Sassy’s in Redmond.
Court records indicate that York had previously pleaded guilty to first-degree robbery in that case. His absence from the sentencing hearing triggered the felony warrant, which was active at the time of the fatal crash.
Ongoing Investigation
The Oregon State Police are continuing to investigate the circumstances surrounding the pursuit and subsequent crash. Officials have not indicated whether additional factors, such as road conditions or vehicle speed, contributed to the collision.
Authorities have also not announced whether any further review will be conducted regarding the pursuit itself. As is standard procedure in fatal crashes involving law enforcement activity, investigators will examine all aspects of the incident.
The case brings a tragic end to an ongoing legal matter that had drawn attention in Central Oregon following the 2025 robbery. Officials have not released additional details about funeral arrangements or statements from family members.
