Texas Mother and 7-Year-Old Son Killed After Car Crashes Into Bedroom While They Slept

A quiet Texas neighborhood was shaken in the early hours of Sunday morning after a vehicle tore through a family home, killing a mother and her young son as they slept in their bedroom, authorities said.

The crash happened on the 200 block of North Ollie Street in Stephenville, a city located roughly 100 miles southwest of Dallas. According to police, a vehicle suddenly left the roadway and smashed through the wall of the residence, striking the room where 49-year-old Barbara Rocha and her 7-year-old son, Alex Aaron Rocha, were sleeping.

Family members described a chaotic and heartbreaking scene in the moments after the crash. Raul Rocha, Alex’s older brother, said another sibling who was inside the home at the time rushed toward the bedroom after hearing the impact.

“All I heard was a crash,” Raul recounted his brother saying. “When he went into the room, all he could hear was my little brother screaming and my mom praying.” Raul said those words continue to replay in his mind.

Emergency responders arrived quickly and transported Barbara and Alex to a nearby hospital. Despite lifesaving efforts, both were pronounced dead from their injuries.

Authorities allege that 18-year-old Gracie Yates was driving the vehicle that crashed into the home. She has been charged with two counts of criminally negligent homicide. Investigators have not publicly stated whether anyone else was in the vehicle at the time of the incident, and officials have not confirmed whether alcohol or drugs played a role in the crash.

Yates was taken into custody and booked into the Erath County Jail. A judge set her bond at $14,500. Jail records show she was later released after posting bond.

The loss has devastated the Rocha family. A fundraiser organized by a family friend states that Barbara’s husband now faces the unimaginable burden of grieving both his wife and young son while also dealing with the damage to their home. According to the fundraiser, the family is seeking help to cover funeral expenses, temporary housing, and other urgent needs as they attempt to recover from the tragedy.

Neighbors described the Rochas as a close-knit family and said the crash has left the community stunned. What began as an ordinary night ended in a catastrophe that forever altered multiple lives.

Police have indicated the investigation remains ongoing.
