Drive-By Gunfire Kills Man Inside South Side Home in Chicago

A 45-year-old man was fatally shot while inside his residence during a late-night drive-by shooting on Chicago’s South Side, authorities confirmed.

According to the Chicago Police Department, the incident occurred in the 5700 block of South May Street. Investigators said the victim was inside his home when a gray sedan drove past the property. Someone inside the vehicle allegedly opened fire, sending multiple rounds into the house.

Police said the man was struck in the head. Emergency responders arrived shortly after the shooting, but he was pronounced dead at the scene.

Footage captured from the area showed visible damage to one of the home’s front windows, including a bullet hole where shots are believed to have penetrated. Neighbors reported hearing several rapid gunshots before seeing the vehicle speed away from the block.

Authorities have not released the victim’s identity pending family notification. No suspects are currently in custody, and no additional injuries were reported.

Area One detectives are actively investigating the shooting. Officers are reviewing surveillance footage from nearby homes and businesses in hopes of identifying the vehicle involved. Detectives are also speaking with residents to determine whether the shooting was targeted or random.

The deadly incident adds to ongoing concerns about gun violence in parts of Chicago, particularly in residential neighborhoods where drive-by shootings have endangered bystanders and families inside their homes.
