MADISON, Wis. — A tragic high-speed collision early Tuesday morning has left a 19-year-old man dead and three others fighting for their lives in local hospitals.
The Madison Fire Department and police units rushed to the 400 block of South Midvale Boulevard, near the intersection of Mineral Point Road, shortly after 12:30 a.m. following reports of a severe single-vehicle accident.
Speed a Likely Factor in Median Crash
According to witness statements gathered at the scene, the vehicle was traveling at a high rate of speed before the driver lost control and slammed into a tree located in the center median. The impact was severe enough to trap one occupant inside the wreckage.
Casualties and Emergency Response
First responders arrived to find a chaotic scene:
- One 19-year-old male was trapped in the front of the vehicle. Despite extraction efforts, he succumbed to his injuries and was pronounced dead.
- Three other occupants were found outside the vehicle upon arrival. All three sustained serious injuries and were rushed to a nearby hospital by paramedics.
Ongoing Investigation
The Madison Police Department has closed off the area for several hours to conduct a forensic reconstruction of the crash. While speed is being eyed as a primary factor, investigators have not yet confirmed if other elements, such as road conditions or impairment, played a role.
