OKLAHOMA CITY, OK — After years of anticipation, delays, and “coming soon” signs, Oklahoma City residents are finally about to get their first taste of the South’s most famous fried chicken and biscuits. Bojangles has officially confirmed that its much-anticipated North Oklahoma City location is ready to open its doors to the public.
The North Carolina-based chain, famous for its “legendary iced tea” and made-from-scratch buttermilk biscuits, will officially launch its first Sooner State restaurant at 13135 N. Pennsylvania Ave. on April 28.
A Long Road to the Sooner State
The journey of Bojangles into the Oklahoma market has been anything but a straight line. Plans were originally set in motion back in 2020 through a partnership with the Oklahoma City-based Love’s Travel Stops. However, the global COVID-19 pandemic derailed those initial expansion plans, leaving local foodies waiting in limbo.
Last summer, the brand reignited the hype by announcing a renewed push into Oklahoma, promising at least two locations in the OKC metro area. While many hoped to see the doors open before the end of last year, logistical hurdles pushed the grand opening into 2026. Now, with the official April 28 date set, the wait is finally over.
What’s on the Menu for OKC?
Bojangles brings a unique flavor profile to the competitive Oklahoma fried chicken scene. Unlike many of its competitors, Bojangles is just as famous for its breakfast as it is for its dinner.
Key menu items that have created a “cult following” in 21 other states include:
- Cajun Pint-Sized Chicken: Spicy, hand-breaded chicken that packs a punch.
- Bo-Berry Biscuits: A sweet treat made with blueberries and topped with icing.
- Made-from-Scratch Biscuits: Baked fresh every 20 minutes by a certified “Biscuit Maker.”
- Legendary Sweet Tea: Often cited by fans as the best in the fast-food industry.
Strategic Growth: Where is the Second Location?
The 13135 N. Pennsylvania Ave. location is strategically situated in front of Dick’s House of Sports, a high-traffic retail hub that is expected to draw massive crowds during the opening week.
But North OKC isn’t the only area getting a taste of the South. A second location is already in the works for Walnut Square at 2203 W. I-240 Service Road. While an official opening date for the South OKC spot hasn’t been announced yet, it is expected to follow closely behind the flagship Penn Ave. location.
The Bojangles Global Footprint
With over 850 stores across the United States and even international locations in Honduras, Bojangles’ arrival signals that Oklahoma City is becoming a primary destination for major national retail expansions. The company’s move into Oklahoma is part of a larger strategy to bridge the gap between its Southeastern roots and the growing Midwest markets.
Are you ready for Bo-Berry Biscuits, OKC? Will you be standing in line on April 28, or are you waiting for the South OKC location to open?
