DEKALB COUNTY, GA — A massive four-hour manhunt that paralyzed a DeKalb County neighborhood ended late Thursday night with the capture of Tremagne McCluskey. The 25-year-old is accused of opening fire on a police officer who was assisting in an multi-agency armed robbery investigation.
The incident sparked a frantic search, tactical deployments, and a total shutdown of local traffic, leaving residents on edge as SWAT teams combed the area for the armed suspect.
The Incident: A Routine Warrant Turns Violent
The chaos began around 5:00 PM on Thursday near the intersection of Glenwood Road and Shamrock Drive. Officers from the DeKalb County Police Department were providing backup to Cobb County authorities who were attempting to serve an arrest warrant related to a violent armed robbery.
According to preliminary reports, the encounter escalated almost immediately. As officers approached, McCluskey allegedly brandished a firearm and opened fire. One DeKalb County officer was struck during the exchange.
The injured officer was rushed to a local hospital. Fortunately, officials confirmed that the officer sustained non-life-threatening injuries and is currently in stable condition. While the officer’s recovery is a relief to the department, their identity is being withheld pending further investigation and family notification.
“I Ducked Behind the Car”: Eyewitnesses Describe the Chaos
The shooting occurred in a high-traffic area near the Midwood Glen apartment complex and several local businesses. Cameran Kelly, owner of the Factory Auto Body shop, was just feet away when the violence erupted.
“It was a Camry, kind of like sped real fast down the road. And it caught my attention,” Kelly told reporters. “I looked over, and it slammed on its brakes and dove into the parking lot. And then the person, the driver, got out of the car and confronted someone and then gunshots.”
Kelly, who has lived in the area for years, said the proximity of the gunfire was terrifying. “I’m no stranger to gunshots around here. But being that close, I ducked. I ducked behind the car for a second, and blood pressure went up.”
The Manhunt and Capture
Following the shooting, McCluskey fled on foot, prompting a massive law enforcement response. SKYFOX 5 footage showed dozens of patrol cars, K-9 units, and tactical teams surrounding the perimeter. For nearly four hours, the neighborhood was on lockdown as residents were advised to stay indoors.
The search ended shortly before 9:00 PM when a DeKalb County SWAT team located McCluskey and took him into custody without further incident.
Questions Remain in Ongoing Investigation
While the suspect is behind bars, several questions remain unanswered. Authorities have not yet confirmed:
- If the firearm used in the shooting has been recovered.
- Whether the weapon matches the one used in the initial Cobb County robbery.
- The specific details of the robbery that led to the warrant service.
Legal Charges and What’s Next
Tremagne McCluskey now faces a mountain of legal trouble across multiple jurisdictions. In DeKalb County, he is facing a primary charge of Aggravated Assault on a Law Enforcement Officer.
Additionally, he remains the primary suspect in the Cobb County investigation, where he faces charges of Armed Robbery and Possession of a Firearm during the Commission of a Felony. McCluskey is currently being held at the DeKalb County Jail awaiting his initial court appearance.
