Miami Teen Sentenced To 17 Years For Fatal Stabbing Of Boyfriend

MIAMI, FL – A sentencing hearing on Tuesday brought a close to a tragic 2024 homicide case, as 18-year-old Jahara Malik was ordered to serve 17 years in prison for the death of her boyfriend.

The Sentencing Hearing

Malik, who was 17 at the time of the incident but charged as an adult, pleaded guilty to manslaughter in March. During Tuesday’s emotional hearing, a Miami-Dade judge decided her fate after Malik chose to plead guilty without a formal plea deal.

While the judge acknowledged Malik’s remorse, the court noted that evidence suggested the aggression was not an isolated incident. The sentence falls short of the 30-year maximum requested by the victim’s family.

Details of the 2024 Incident

The fatal encounter occurred on December 20, 2024, at an apartment building near Northwest 6th Court and 61st Street. Following an argument, Malik stabbed 17-year-old Yahkeim Lollar in the building’s garage.

Lollar’s mother, Nathalie Jean, stated that the dispute began because her son was honest about wanting to end the relationship. Charges were filed against Malik over a month after the incident following persistent protests by the victim’s family.

Remembering ‘Keimo’

Yahkeim Lollar, known affectionately as “Keimo” by friends and family, was a junior at Miami Northwestern Senior High School. A dedicated family member and football enthusiast, Lollar had aspirations of pursuing a career in finance.

During the hearing, his aunt, Zeldrina Beecham, expressed the deep pain of the family, describing the lasting suffering caused by the loss of the young student.
