SWAT Negotiations Underway After Man Barricades Himself With Daughter In North Philly

PHILADELPHIA, PA – A tense standoff continues in North Philadelphia after a man barricaded himself inside a home with his 15-year-old daughter early Friday morning, threatening to burn the property down.

High-Stakes Standoff in Fairhill

The incident began just before 1 a.m. at a residence near 10th Street and Indiana Avenue in the Fairhill section. Philadelphia Police Chief Inspector Scott Small stated that the 36-year-old man claimed to be in possession of firearms and incendiary devices.

As of 6 a.m., negotiations were still ongoing. Authorities believe the situation is extremely volatile, as the suspect has threatened to set the home on fire while both he and his daughter remain inside.

Police Response and Safety Concerns

Chief Inspector Small noted that the man has a known history of mental health challenges. “The reason we are there is he is making some threats to either set the property on fire or use some kind of incendiary device,” Small told reporters at the scene.

Specialized negotiators and SWAT teams have surrounded the property. Despite multiple attempts to resolve the situation peacefully, both individuals inside have so far refused to exit the building.

Community Impact

Police have cordoned off the area surrounding 10th and Indiana, and residents are advised to avoid the immediate vicinity to allow emergency teams to work. No injuries have been reported as the standoff enters its sixth hour.
