SOMERSET, KY – A dispute over internet access turned violent in Pulaski County after a man allegedly attacked a couple with a baseball bat, leaving one victim with serious head injuries.
The Assault over Wi-Fi
According to the Pulaski County Sheriff’s Office, 44-year-old Jonathan Gross was arrested on Sunday, May 3. Investigators say Gross became enraged after he was unable to access a couple’s Wi-Fi network in an apartment complex.
Witnesses told police that Gross used a baseball bat to strike both a man and his girlfriend in the head. When officers arrived at the scene, they discovered a woman bleeding heavily from her head outside the residence.
Death Threats and Standoff
Following the physical assault, Gross reportedly threatened to kill both victims if the Wi-Fi was not restored by the time he returned to his room. When deputies arrived, Gross initially refused to surrender, leading to a brief standoff before he was taken into custody inside the building.
Authorities noted that Gross appeared to be under the influence of alcohol at the time of the incident.
Severe Charges and High Bond
Gross is currently being held at the Pulaski County Detention Center. He faces a long list of serious charges, including:
- Two counts of Attempted Murder
- Two counts of Third-Degree Terroristic Threatening
- Second-Degree Disorderly Conduct
- Alcohol Intoxication in a Public Place
A judge has set his bond at $1 million cash.

Gross is scheduled for a preliminary hearing on May 13 at 1:30 p.m. It has not yet been confirmed if he has retained legal representation.
