Bradenton, Florida — A heartbreaking tragedy at a Florida apartment complex pool has led to criminal charges against a mother after her 4-year-old daughter drowned during a crowded pool party, according to police.
Authorities say the child was underwater for “several minutes” before anyone noticed, despite numerous adults and family members being present at the gathering.
Child Found Unresponsive in Apartment Pool
The incident happened Saturday night at the Kendall Ridge Apartment Complex located at 302 26th Ave W in Bradenton.
According to the Bradenton Police Department, officers were dispatched to the location around 9:10 p.m. following reports of a drowning.
First responders arrived quickly and located the young girl within minutes. Authorities said CPR was immediately performed before the child was rushed to a nearby hospital.
Despite rescue efforts, the child was later pronounced dead.
The devastating incident has shocked the local community and sparked renewed concerns about child safety around swimming pools.
Police Say Child Was Underwater for Several Minutes
Detectives investigating the case determined that a large group of people, including the child’s family members, had gathered at the apartment complex pool for a party.
According to investigators, the child slipped underwater while swimming and allegedly remained at the bottom of the pool unnoticed for an extended period.
The investigation indicates the child was allegedly “at the bottom of the pool for several minutes before she was discovered.”
Police later arrested the child’s mother, 32-year-old Rosette Pierrecius, charging her with child neglect resulting in great bodily harm, a serious felony offense under Florida law.
Massive Police Response Shocks Neighbors
The incident prompted a large emergency response that drew attention from residents throughout the apartment complex.
Neighbor Hope Levan described returning home from work and seeing numerous police vehicles gathered near the property.
“You have to pay more attention to the kids when you take them to the pool,” Levan told local station WWSB.
“When you turn your back, they go in the pool start to play and you have to pay more attention with them because kids are kids and they don’t know what’s dangerous there.”
Levan also noted that she had recently taken her own granddaughter to the same pool, making the tragedy especially emotional for nearby residents.
Police Stress Importance of Pool Supervision
Following the arrest, the Bradenton Police Department issued a statement emphasizing the dangers pools pose to young children, even when many adults are nearby.
Officials noted that drownings remain the leading cause of death for children between the ages of 1 and 4.
“Even when lifeguards are present, we cannot emphasize strongly enough the importance of a dedicated ‘water watcher’ to help keep our children safe,” the department wrote.

Authorities stressed that crowded environments can create a false sense of security, causing adults to mistakenly assume someone else is watching the children.
Mother Remains in Custody
Pierrecius was taken into custody and booked into the Manatee County Jail, where she remained held on a $5,000 bond Monday morning, according to jail records.
Officials have not yet announced when she is expected to appear in court.
Under Florida law, a conviction on the second-degree felony charge could result in up to 15 years in prison.
Meanwhile, investigators say the case remains active as they continue reviewing the circumstances surrounding the child’s death.
