Phoenix Man Charged With Murder After Dismembered Remains Found In Apartment

PHOENIX, AZ – A 32-year-old Arizona man is behind bars on a $1 million bond after authorities discovered the dismembered remains of a victim inside a hallway closet and a suitcase.

A Gruesome Discovery

The investigation began around 9 p.m. on May 7, when Phoenix Police responded to a homicide report at an apartment. Upon arrival, officers noted a strong smell of bleach and observed evidence of a significant cleanup effort.

During a search of the premises, investigators found the body of an unidentified male hidden inside a closet, wrapped in carpeting and an air mattress. The remains were found to be missing the head and hands.

The Investigation and Arrest

The suspect, identified as Christopher Michael Ebanks (also known as “Draco”), was linked to the crime through witness statements and surveillance footage. According to court documents, a witness claimed Ebanks stabbed the victim during an argument over rent money.

Detectives later executed a search warrant at Ebanks’ secondary residence in Glendale, where they allegedly discovered a suitcase containing additional human remains.

Legal Proceedings

Ebanks has been charged with:

  • First-Degree Murder
  • Kidnapping

At the time of this incident, Ebanks was reportedly on probation for prior weapons and drug charges from 2023. He is currently being held on a $1 million cash bond and is scheduled for a court appearance on May 14.

The identity of the victim has not yet been released pending notification of next of kin. Phoenix Police have not specified the exact relationship between Ebanks and the deceased, though witnesses suggest the altercation stemmed from a financial dispute.
