Richland County, South Carolina — A South Carolina elementary school teacher has been arrested after authorities say an investigation into a runaway child led deputies directly to her home.
The case has drawn significant attention after investigators accused the educator of withholding information during the search for the missing teen.
Runaway Child Investigation Leads to Teacher’s Home
According to the Richland County Sheriff’s Department, deputies responded on May 10 to a report involving a runaway child allegedly being housed at the residence of 33-year-old Yshay Fuller.
Authorities said the investigation began after concerns were raised about the missing child’s whereabouts. Deputies were dispatched to Fuller’s home as part of the effort to locate the teen.
The sheriff’s department later alleged that Fuller was not fully cooperative with investigators during the encounter.
“The sheriff’s department alleges Fuller was not forthcoming about what she knew about the child and their whereabouts.”
When deputies arrived at the residence, they did not find the child there. However, officials said the teen eventually returned home later that same evening after reportedly being missing since May 8.
Teacher Faces Multiple Criminal Charges
Following additional investigation into the circumstances surrounding the runaway case, authorities arrested Fuller on Tuesday, May 19.
Court records show Fuller has been charged with:
- Contributing to the delinquency of a minor
- Obstructing justice
- Neglect by a legal guardian
Investigators have not publicly shared further details regarding the relationship between Fuller and the child or how long the teen may have been connected to her residence.
The allegations, however, were serious enough for authorities to move forward with criminal charges.
Sheriff’s Office Says Allegations Not School Related
Fuller is listed as a teacher at Caughman Road Elementary School in South Carolina. Despite public concern surrounding the arrest, officials clarified that the allegations are not connected to her role at the school.
The Richland County Sheriff’s Office specifically stated that the alleged conduct did not involve school activities or incidents occurring on campus.
Still, the arrest of a teacher in a case involving a runaway minor has raised questions within the local community.
Bond Set at $20,000
After her arrest, Fuller was booked into the Alvin S. Glenn Detention Center, where her bond was set at $20,000, according to authorities.
She was later released from custody on Thursday under strict court-ordered conditions.
Court records show Fuller is prohibited from contacting the alleged victim and must remain at least 1,000 yards away from them while the case moves through the legal system.
These restrictions are commonly imposed in cases involving minors to prevent further contact during ongoing investigations.
Court Appearance Scheduled for July
Fuller is expected to make her first court appearance on July 31, according to court documents.
As the legal proceedings continue, investigators have not indicated whether additional charges could be filed or whether more information about the runaway investigation will be released publicly.
The case remains under active review by local authorities.
