LANSING, IL – A 31-year-old Thornton man is facing a first-degree murder charge after allegedly shooting and killing a man inside a suburban automotive shop earlier this month.
Fatal Shooting at Nippon Paint
The incident occurred just before 1:00 p.m. on June 3 at Nippon Paint Automotive Americas in Lansing. According to police, Devon A. Johnson entered the facility—where he was previously employed—and opened fire while several workers were inside the building.
Responding officers discovered 48-year-old Andrew Coleman dead inside an office space. No other injuries were reported among the staff members present during the attack.
Manhunt and Local Lockdowns
Following the shooting, Johnson fled the scene, prompting an immediate and massive law enforcement response. Authorities placed nearby residential neighborhoods and local schools on lockdown, and a shelter-in-place order was issued for residents as a precaution during the initial search.
The multi-agency manhunt concluded when Chicago Police successfully tracked down and apprehended Johnson within the city limits.
Legal Proceedings
Lansing authorities officially announced the first-degree murder charge on Wednesday following a thorough investigation. A clear motive for the shooting has not yet been released by detectives, and the case remains under active investigation by local prosecutors.
