FRESNO, CA — A quiet afternoon in a Fresno neighborhood turned into a scene of terror on April 22, after a woman allegedly attempted to kidnap an 8-year-old girl by dragging her toward a vehicle. The suspect, identified as 37-year-old Tyiesha Davis, is now behind bars following a brave escape by the young victim and quick intervention by local neighbors.
The Brazen Afternoon Attack
The incident occurred around 4:38 p.m. in the area of Andrews Avenue, near Shields and West Avenues. According to the Fresno Police Department, the young girl was outside when Davis allegedly approached her.
In a disturbing display of violence, Davis reportedly grabbed the 8-year-old by her hair, attempting to physically pull the child into a waiting vehicle. However, the girl managed to break free from the suspect’s grip. Showing remarkable presence of mind, the child ran to a nearby home and knocked on a neighbor’s door. The resident quickly ushered the girl inside to safety and called 911.
Chilling Claims: “Stolen at Birth”
As investigators delved into the details of the encounter, the story took an even more bizarre turn. The young victim told police that during the struggle, Davis claimed the girl had been “stolen at birth” and remarkably seemed to know the child’s name.
When the girl’s parents arrived at the scene, they were shocked by the claims. They confirmed to investigators that they had absolutely no relation to Tyiesha Davis and had never seen the woman before. The motive behind Davis’s claims and her knowledge of the girl’s name remain central parts of the ongoing police investigation.
Community Response and Arrest
Several neighbors reportedly witnessed the struggle and called emergency services. One neighbor, Hector Barba, expressed the community’s collective relief after the suspect was apprehended.
“I’m really glad. It just gives me closure, that girl’s safe with her parents and she doesn’t have to deal with this,” Barba told local reporters.
Tyiesha Davis was arrested on April 22 and booked into the Fresno County Jail. She is currently being held on an attempted kidnapping charge with a bond set at $185,000. Records show she remains in custody as of this week.
A Reminder for Local Parents
This incident serves as a chilling reminder for residents in the Shields and West Avenue areas to remain vigilant. Fresno Police are praising the young girl’s bravery and the neighbors’ quick actions, which likely prevented a much more tragic outcome.
Authorities have not yet released information regarding whether Davis was acting alone or if there had been any prior surveillance of the family.
What do you think, Fresno? This story has left many parents in the area shaken. Do you think the $185,000 bond is high enough for an attempted kidnapping? How are you talking to your children about “stranger danger” after incidents like this?
