Philadelphia Region Faces Severe Drought Despite Beautiful Father's Day Forecast

PHILADELPHIA, PA – While the Philadelphia area is heading into a near-perfect weekend for Father’s Day, new data reveals that the region is now gripping a rapidly worsening severe drought.

Worsening Severe Drought Conditions

According to the latest drought monitor report, 20% of the Philadelphia region is now officially under a SEVERE drought (ranking 4 out of 5 on the intensity scale). The area’s 2026 precipitation deficit has officially plummeted to more than 5.50 inches below normal, leaving local landscapes and agricultural sectors desperately in need of sustained rainfall.

Clearing Skies For Juneteenth & World Cup Events

After a few light morning showers on Friday—particularly concentrated south of the city in South Jersey and Delaware—clouds are expected to break between 12:00 p.m. and 2:00 p.m.

The clearing skies will provide ideal weather for local holiday and sports events:

  • Lemon Hill: Clear and gorgeous afternoon for fans watching the U.S. Men’s National Team.
  • Haiti vs. Brazil Match (8:00 p.m.): Mostly clear, pleasant conditions with low humidity and temperatures in the upper 70s.

A Perfect Father’s Day Weekend

The weekend weather forecast is excellent for outdoor family plans. Both Saturday and Sunday will feature mostly sunny skies and seasonably warm temperatures peaking in the upper 80s with refreshing, low humidity.

  • Saturday: Mostly sunny with a high of 87°F and a low of 67°F.
  • Sunday (Father’s Day): Mostly sunny with a high of 87°F and a low of 65°F.
  • Summer Solstice: The summer season officially begins on Father’s Day morning at 4:24 a.m.

Rain and Storms Return Monday

The drought may see minor relief early next week. A new weather system approaching from the west is expected to bring a return of humidity, rain, and thunderstorms on Monday, June 22.

While severe weather is currently unlikely, the storms could potentially impact Monday evening’s World Cup match between France and Iraq around 5:00 p.m. Local meteorologists will continue to monitor the system over the weekend.
