Bangladeshi Man Extradited to Face Federal Child Sexual Exploitation Charges After Allegedly Targeting Teen Girls Online

ANCHORAGE, ALASKA — A 28-year-old Bangladeshi man accused of coercing teenage girls into sending sexually explicit images and threatening to distribute them if they refused to comply has been transported to Alaska to face federal charges.

Zobaidul Amin pleaded not guilty during an initial court appearance in Anchorage after being taken into custody by the Federal Bureau of Investigation in Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia, where he had been studying medicine and facing related legal issues.

Federal Indictment and Charges

A federal grand jury indicted Amin in 2022 on charges that include:

  • Child pornography
  • Child sexual exploitation
  • Cyberstalking
  • Wire fraud

According to U.S. prosecutors, Amin allegedly used social media platforms to pose as a teenager and manipulate minor victims into sending explicit photos and videos.

Prosecutors allege that once the victims complied, Amin would threaten to send the images to their friends, family members, and online followers unless they sent additional content.

Investigation Began in Alaska

The case began when a 14-year-old girl in Alaska reported her experience to law enforcement.

According to court documents, after the teen stopped communicating with Amin, he allegedly followed through on his threats and distributed explicit images of her to others.

Investigators executed dozens of search warrants and subpoenas as part of the investigation. Authorities eventually identified Amin and determined that he had allegedly targeted hundreds of minors.

Prosecutors wrote in a detention memorandum that Amin told victims the only way to stop his demands was to recruit additional minors.

They further alleged that Amin believed he was beyond the reach of U.S. law enforcement because he was living overseas.

Arrest and Transfer to the United States

Efforts to formally extradite Amin reportedly failed. However, with assistance from the FBI, Malaysian authorities filed related charges.

Amin was released on bail during proceedings in Malaysia. Ultimately, U.S. authorities succeeded in having him expelled from the country.

The FBI took Amin into custody and transported him to Alaska to face federal prosecution.

In a statement, Kash Patel emphasized the agency’s commitment to pursuing individuals accused of exploiting children, regardless of where they reside.

Court Proceedings

U.S. Magistrate Judge Kyle Reardon ordered that Amin remain in custody while the case moves forward.

If convicted, Amin could face significant federal prison time under U.S. child exploitation statutes.

Ongoing Case

Federal prosecutors continue to review evidence in the case, including digital communications and alleged online activity involving victims across multiple jurisdictions.

Authorities have not released the identities of the victims due to their minor status.

Conclusion

The case highlights the international scope of online exploitation investigations and the coordination required between U.S. and foreign authorities.

As proceedings continue in Anchorage federal court, prosecutors will seek to prove allegations that Amin used deception, threats, and coercion to exploit minors online.
