Confirmed Tornado Damages 20 Homes in Pinson as Severe Weather Threat Continues

Pinson, Alabama — A confirmed tornado tore through parts of Pinson Thursday afternoon, damaging around 20 homes and knocking down trees and power lines as emergency crews rushed to secure the area.

According to the Center Point Fire District (CPFD), crews began responding to calls around 3:30 p.m. after the storm moved through the community.

The impacted area stretches along Main Street from City Hall to Tapawingo Road, as well as the north end of Silver Lake Road, officials said.

Tornado Confirmed by National Weather Service

The National Weather Service later confirmed that the storm was indeed a tornado.

Authorities reported:

  • Downed power lines
  • Fallen trees blocking roads
  • Multiple homes with structural damage

Emergency responders remained in the area for hours after the storm passed, working to secure damaged properties and assess hazards.

“What we do know happened is we had people affected out here, people whose lives were going one way, and then an hour later life was different,” said CPFD official Coker.

Officials emphasized that restoring safety and stability for residents remains the top priority.

Power Restoration and Assistance Efforts

Utility companies are working to restore power as quickly as possible, though officials have not provided a timeline for full restoration.

The American Red Cross is expected to assist affected residents once weather conditions allow them safe access to the area.

CPFD urged the public to avoid the damaged neighborhoods while crews continue emergency operations.

“We’ve got the area secured. Several homes are damaged, we just can’t let anyone into the neighborhoods for right now,” a CPFD official said.

More Severe Weather Possible

Officials also warned residents not to let their guard down, as additional severe weather could move through the region later.

“Just don’t lose your focus on the coming weather tonight. Make sure you have multiple ways to get watches and warnings,” CPFD said.

Residents are encouraged to stay weather-aware, monitor alerts and have a plan in place should additional storms develop.

No injuries have been reported as of the latest update, but damage assessments are ongoing.
