INGLEWOOD, CA – Police have launched a search for a gunman following a fatal car-to-car shooting Friday evening near the iconic Kia Forum.
The Shooting Near Prairie and Manchester
The violence unfolded around 6:30 p.m. at the intersection of Prairie and Manchester Avenues. According to Inglewood Mayor James Butts, two vehicles were stopped at the location when a suspect opened fire on a man in the adjacent car before speeding away from the scene.
Despite being struck by gunfire, the victim managed to drive approximately one block to the 700 block of Nutwood Street, where he succumbed to his injuries and passed away.
Passenger and Investigation
Authorities confirmed that a woman was also inside the vehicle with the victim at the time of the shooting. It has not yet been confirmed if she sustained any physical injuries during the attack.
As of late Friday night, detectives had not released a description of the suspect or the vehicle involved. The motive behind the shooting remains under investigation.
Major Traffic Closures
The incident caused significant disruptions for Friday evening commuters and event-goers. Police shut down Prairie Avenue between Manchester and Kelso Street to process evidence. Motorists were advised to avoid the area as the investigation continued late into the night.
