COUNTRY CLUB HILLS, IL – Multiple federal and local agencies converged on a Country Club Hills neighborhood Tuesday evening following a shooting involving a police officer.
Multi-Agency Response at 187th Street
The incident unfolded near 187th Street and Loretto Lane in the southwest suburb. Details regarding what triggered the gunfire remain limited, but the scene saw a massive law enforcement presence.
Officers from both the FBI and the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives (ATF) were spotted on the scene assisting local authorities. The Chicago Police Department has deferred all official inquiries regarding the active scene to the ATF.
COPA Launches Investigation
Chicago’s Civilian Office of Police Accountability (COPA) confirmed via social media that they have launched an official investigation into the shooting. COPA is the primary agency responsible for investigating incidents where Chicago police officers discharge their weapons.
As of late Tuesday night, Country Club Hills police and fire departments had not released official statements regarding potential injuries or the condition of the officer involved.
Suspect Taken Into Custody
Shortly after 8:00 p.m., federal agents on the scene were observed handing over a woman in handcuffs to Country Club Hills police officers.
The identity of the woman and her exact connection to the shooting incident have not yet been disclosed by investigators. The circumstances surrounding her arrest remain under active review.
