Florida Driver Alone on Highway Began Praying for Help; Then 3 Teenagers Walked Up and Saved His Life

Cooper City, Florida — Three Florida teenagers are being praised for their heroic actions after stopping to help a stranded driver and ultimately making a decision authorities say likely saved his life.

The incident unfolded on April 19 along South Flamingo Road in Cooper City, where a routine flat tire situation quickly turned into a life-threatening medical emergency.

Flat Tire Leads to Medical Emergency

According to the Broward County Sheriff’s Office, 65-year-old Diego Fernandez-Delgado was driving when one of his tires suddenly blew out.

With his phone battery dead and no way to call for assistance, Fernandez-Delgado pulled over and attempted to change the tire himself on a hot Florida afternoon.

Nearby, three high school classmates — Logan Royer, 16, Cody Magrone, 16, and Brody Murray, 17 — were at a McDonald’s when they noticed the man struggling beside his vehicle.

Wanting to help, the teens walked over to assist him with the tire. But once they began speaking with him, they realized something seemed seriously wrong.

Teens Realize Driver Is in Distress

The teenagers noticed Fernandez-Delgado appeared weak and unwell. With temperatures reportedly reaching around 90 degrees Fahrenheit, they initially feared he might be suffering from a heat-related illness.

Authorities later revealed that the man was experiencing alarming symptoms, including difficulty breathing, chest pain, and severe weakness.

Officials said Fernandez-Delgado “was too ill to speak on the phone” during the emergency.

Recognizing the seriousness of the situation, the teens quickly called 911 and stayed calm while waiting for emergency responders to arrive.

Quick Thinking May Have Saved His Life

According to the sheriff’s office, the boys carefully followed emergency instructions to keep Fernandez-Delgado safe and comfortable until help reached the scene.

Body camera footage released by deputies showed the teens remaining beside the man and his vehicle as police officers and paramedics responded.

Emergency crews then transported Fernandez-Delgado to a local hospital, where doctors later determined he had suffered a heart attack.

“First responders indicated that the students’ quick action likely saved his life,” the sheriff’s office said.

Their rapid response and willingness to step in made a critical difference during a moment when every second mattered.

Family Expresses Emotional Gratitude

After undergoing multiple medical procedures, Fernandez-Delgado is now reportedly recovering at home.

His family expressed deep gratitude toward the three teenagers whose actions may have prevented a tragedy.

Fernandez-Delgado’s son, Cristian Fernandez, shared an emotional message about the incident, explaining that his father had started praying after realizing he had no way to contact anyone for help.

“God didn’t send angels with wings,” Cristian said. “He sent those boys.”

The heartfelt statement has resonated with many online, with people praising the teens for their compassion, maturity, and quick judgment.

A Powerful Reminder About Helping Others

Authorities say the incident serves as a reminder that even small acts of kindness can have life-changing consequences.

“Their actions serve as a powerful reminder,” the sheriff’s office added, “sometimes, the difference between life and death starts with simply choosing to step in and help.”

What began as teenagers helping a stranger with a flat tire ended with a life potentially being saved — all because they chose not to ignore someone in need.
