Man Shot Dead After Argument Near South Los Angeles Taco Stand

SOUTH LOS ANGELES, CA – A late-night dispute escalated into a deadly shooting near a South Los Angeles taco stand early Sunday morning, leaving a family devastated and police searching for a gunman.

Fatal Escalation At Holmes And Slauson

According to the Los Angeles Police Department (LAPD), the shooting occurred just before 2 a.m. Sunday, May 17, near the intersection of Holmes and Slauson Avenues.

Investigators state that a man approached a vehicle before an argument broke out. The confrontation quickly escalated, and the suspect shot the victim multiple times before fleeing the scene in a vehicle. First responders attempted life-saving measures, but the victim succumbed to his injuries at the scene.

Victim Identified

The victim’s family has identified him as 30-year-old Dashawn Coleman.

Speaking to reporters, his brother, Brett Balley, expressed the family’s shock and grief. “We don’t know nothing. All we know is we need justice,” Balley said. “He was a good person, a loving person. He took care of everybody.”

Witness Recounts Terror

The area near the taco stand showed visible signs of violence, including several bullet holes riddled through a nearby fence.

Jordan Guzman, who was working at the taco stand at the time of the incident, described hearing about seven to eight gunshots following a loud verbal altercation. “We heard some people yelling — yelling bad words. They started fighting,” Guzman said. “I hear like seven gunshots, and that scares me. I was just frozen.”

Suspect Description Outstanding

LAPD detectives have not yet released a detailed description of the gunman or the getaway vehicle. The motive behind the initial argument remains unclear as the investigation continues.
