PALMDALE, CA – What began as a routine investigation into illegal dumping ended in one of the largest drug seizures in Palmdale’s history, uncovering over 800 pounds of methamphetamine.
The Discovery Inside Cargo Containers
Palmdale Code Enforcement officers initially responded to a vacant property following reports of illegal trash dumping. While inspecting the site, crews noticed suspicious cargo containers.
Upon closer investigation, authorities discovered a fully operational, hidden narcotics production lab set up inside the containers.
A Historic Seizure
Inside the makeshift lab, teams uncovered:
- More than 800 pounds of packaged methamphetamine.
- Chemical raw materials used for manufacturing street drugs.
- Photographic evidence documenting multiple stages of the narcotics production process.
The Los Angeles County Sheriff’s Department (LASD) has officially taken over the criminal investigation. Multiple agencies assisted at the scene, including the LAPD, Los Angeles County Department of Public Health, and the District Attorney’s Office.
City Leadership Responds
Palmdale Mayor Eric Ohlsen praised the team’s vigilance, noting that this historic bust validates the city’s focus on neighborhood safety.
Officials emphasized that giving code enforcement teams the right tools to investigate minor property violations often leads to dismantling much larger criminal operations, directly protecting the community’s quality of life.
How to Report Suspicious Activity
The investigation into who owns the property and ran the operation remains ongoing. City officials are urging residents who notice illegal dumping, abandoned containers, or suspicious property conditions to report them immediately to Palmdale Code Enforcement through the city’s online portal.
