Dover, Florida – A sudden shutdown of a well-known wedding venue in Hillsborough County has left nearly 70 employees without jobs and dozens of couples searching for new venues after the business abruptly closed last week.
The venue, Cross Creek Ranch in Dover, reportedly notified couples of the closure through an email sent by owners Bonnie and Sean McSharry, who said the decision was due to “circumstances beyond our control and significant changes within the industry.”
The unexpected announcement has caused significant disruption across the local wedding community, affecting both employees and couples who had booked future events at the ranch.
Couples were informed by email that the venue would shut down immediately, leaving many weddings without a location.
Nearly 70 Employees Suddenly Out of Work
Former staff members say the closure came without warning and has left dozens of workers suddenly unemployed.
Valerie Anderson, who worked at the venue for 10 years as the lead wedding coordinator, described the emotional impact of the shutdown.
“I felt like my heart had been ripped out,” Anderson said.
She explained that employees at the venue had developed strong bonds over the years while working together to host weddings and special events.
“We were everyone’s cream of the crop,” Anderson said. “I have worked in many places and I have never seen such a family bond as we had there.”
The closure has not only affected staff members but also vendors who worked regularly with the venue.
Dozens of Weddings Canceled Through 2027
According to Anderson, the shutdown disrupted approximately 40 weddings scheduled through 2027, including 18 ceremonies planned within the next two months.
For many couples, the closure has created urgent challenges as they attempt to find new venues and reorganize wedding plans on short notice.
Some couples were told they would not receive refunds from the venue and were advised to contact their wedding insurance providers.
Employees were also reportedly informed by email that outstanding debts owed to staff and vendors may not be paid unless the property is eventually sold.
Property Listed for Sale After Closure
Following the shutdown, Cross Creek Ranch was listed for sale on the business marketplace BizQuest.
Although the current asking price is not publicly listed, reports indicate the property had been listed for approximately $4 million as recently as last week.
The venue had previously been one of the busiest wedding locations in the Tampa Bay area.
At its peak, the venue hosted between five and ten weddings per week, according to former staff members.
However, competition in the wedding industry has grown significantly in recent years.
Financial Challenges May Have Contributed
Public records in Hillsborough County suggest the venue’s owners may have faced financial difficulties prior to the closure.
Records show the property currently has more than $20,000 in unpaid property taxes.
Court filings also indicate the owners settled a foreclosure case with a mortgage lender in November involving more than $363,000.
Anderson said she believes financial strain may have played a role in the sudden shutdown.
“This is my opinion, but it felt like she was in quicksand financially,” Anderson said.
Local Wedding Industry Steps In to Help Couples
Despite the disruption, businesses across the Tampa Bay wedding industry have begun offering support to couples affected by the closure.
