New York Apartment Fire Horror as 3 Dead, Multiple Injured in Dyckman Street Blaze

NEW YORK, NY – Authorities have released the identities of two victims killed in a devastating fire that swept through a Manhattan apartment building on Dyckman Street. The blaze, which occurred Monday, left three dead and several others fighting for their lives.

Families Mourn Loss of Loved Ones

On Tuesday, officials identified two of the deceased as 49-year-old Yolaine Diaz and her mother, 73-year-old Ana Mirtha Lantigua. A third victim has been confirmed dead, though their identity has not yet been publicly released.

While some families prepare for funerals, others remain at local hospitals. Five survivors, including two children, remain in critical condition. Family members report that several victims required intubation due to severe burns and smoke inhalation.

A “Moment of Terror” During Escape

The six-story building’s design became a death trap during the fire. As the building’s lone stairwell was quickly consumed by flames, residents were forced to find alternate escape routes.

Witnesses described a “moment of terror” as neighbors scrambled onto fire escapes. One woman reportedly jumped from a second-story window to evade the growing heat. In total, one firefighter and five other civilians sustained minor injuries while responding to or escaping the blaze.

Investigation Into Safety Concerns

The fire’s rapid spread through the building’s only internal exit has raised urgent questions regarding fire safety and evacuation protocols. The stairwell was completely destroyed, leaving residents with no clear path to safety.

Fire marshals are currently investigating the cause of the fire. There has been no immediate update on the condition of those most severely injured as of Tuesday afternoon.
