Nearly five years after a beloved North Texas father was gunned down while waiting in line at a food truck, his five daughters are refusing to let his case fade into silence. As the anniversary of his death approaches in August, they are renewing their plea for answers — and for justice.
Ng’Arge Shaw was known as a devoted father, hardworking professional and a man who opened his heart and home to others. His daughters describe a childhood filled with warmth and stability. Their parents were high school sweethearts who built a close-knit, loving household centered on faith, discipline and community.
Shaw dedicated more than 25 years to Richardson ISD, starting as a groundskeeper and working his way up to director of grounds. His daughters say he rarely missed work, taking pride in providing for his family and setting an example of perseverance. It wasn’t until 2013, when his wife was diagnosed with cervical cancer, that he stepped away from his job to care for her.
Three years later, the family suffered a heartbreaking loss when their mother passed away. The grief left a lasting void in the sisters’ lives. They leaned heavily on their father for strength as they navigated life without their mother’s guidance.
Then tragedy struck again.
In the early morning hours of Aug. 7, 2021, Shaw was standing in line at a barbecue food truck near Preston Road and Belt Line Road in far north Dallas, just outside The Hideaway Bar & Grill, when gunfire erupted. According to police, the shooter appeared to be targeting someone else. Shaw, 59 at the time, was caught in the crossfire.
Investigators said the suspect was seen getting into a late-model silver or gray Cadillac driven by a woman. The woman had reportedly been inside the bar earlier that night. Despite those details, no arrest has been made.
Shaw was rushed to the hospital but later died from his injuries. His daughters never had the chance to say goodbye.
The loss compounded their grief, reopening wounds that had barely begun to heal after their mother’s death. Nearly five years later, the pain remains fresh. The sisters say they have not received updates from investigators in years and fear the case has grown cold.
Determined not to let their father’s memory fade, the family has taken matters into their own hands. They have raised $10,000 of their own money to contribute toward a reward for information leading to an arrest. They hope that by speaking publicly and sharing their father’s story, someone who knows something will come forward.
Police continue to encourage anyone with information to contact Crime Stoppers. A reward of up to $5,000 remains available for tips that lead to an arrest and indictment in the case.
For Shaw’s daughters, the fight is about more than solving a crime. It is about honoring a father who spent his life giving to others. It is about reclaiming a sense of peace that was stolen in a moment of violence.
