PHILADELPHIA, PA – Authorities are searching for a driver who fled the scene after intentionally striking a police officer with a vehicle in North Philadelphia on Friday night.
The Incident
The confrontation occurred around 10:00 p.m. near 19th and Nicholas streets. According to the Philadelphia Police Department, the driver used a vehicle to strike the officer and immediately sped away from the location.
The injured officer was rushed to a nearby hospital and is currently listed in stable condition.
Vehicle Recovered in Germantown
Following a swift search, officers tracked down the suspect’s vehicle just before 10:45 p.m. The car was found abandoned at Wayne Avenue and Winnona Street in the city’s Germantown neighborhood, roughly four miles from the crash scene.
Investigators noted that the vehicle had a severely damaged windshield.
Ongoing Investigation
The vehicle has been secured for forensic processing as detectives look for fingerprints and DNA evidence. The driver remains at large, and police have not yet released a physical description of the suspect.
