Smoke Advisory Issued As Southern California Brush Fires Burn

Smoke Advisory Issued As Southern California Brush Fires Burn

LOS ANGELES, CA – The South Coast Air Quality Management District (AQMD) has issued an emergency smoke advisory for the Southland Monday night as strong winds continue to fuel multiple brush fires across Southern California.

Fires Burn Across Multiple Counties

Fire crews are currently battling active blazes in Simi Valley, Santa Rosa Island, Lancaster, and the Angeles National Forest near Glendora. Strong offshore winds fanned the flames on Monday, and meteorologists warn that dry conditions and low humidity will maintain an elevated fire threat through Tuesday.

The official smoke advisory is currently in effect until 6:30 p.m. Tuesday.

Air Quality Reaching “Unhealthy” Levels

Officials warn that air quality index (AQI) levels could become dangerous as smoke settles closer to the ground.

  • Unhealthy Levels Expected: Calabasas, Pacific Palisades, and Malibu.
  • Unhealthy for Sensitive Groups: Santa Monica, Beverly Hills, and East Los Angeles.

Sensitive groups—including children, the elderly, and individuals with respiratory illnesses—are urged to take immediate precautions.

Precautionary Measures for Residents

As smoke concentrations increase overnight and linger into the day, health officials are advising residents in the affected areas to limit outdoor exposure.

Whenever possible, individuals should remain indoors, keep windows and doors closed, and run air conditioners with recirculating filters to keep the air inside clean.
