Suspect Charged With Murder In Stabbing Of UW Student Juniper Blessing

SEATTLE, WA – The King County Prosecuting Attorney’s Office has formally charged a 31-year-old man in connection with the fatal stabbing of 19-year-old University of Washington student Juniper Blessing.

The Charges and Potential Sentence

Christopher Leahy, 31, was formally charged on Monday, May 18, with murder in the first degree with a deadly weapon enhancement.

If convicted, Leahy faces a total sentence of 22 to 28.6 years (264 to 344 months) in prison. This includes a base sentence for the murder charge and an additional mandatory 24 months for the deadly weapon enhancement.

Details of the Off-Campus Attack

According to court charging documents, the incident occurred on Sunday, May 10, in a laundry room at an off-campus housing complex in Seattle. Investigators state that Blessing was innocently doing laundry when Leahy launched a vicious attack, inflicting over 40 stab wounds.

Surveillance footage and witness accounts allege that Leahy, who is not a Seattle resident or a UW student, was stalking other individuals at the complex prior to the attack. Tracking apps and video recordings also placed Leahy inside campus buildings and attempting to enter private homes in the Ravenna neighborhood before the murder.

Investigation and Arraignment

The King County Prosecuting Attorney’s Office stated that independent reviews by police investigators and senior deputy prosecutors found no current evidence that the murder was motivated by hate. However, officials noted that additional charges could be considered if new evidence emerges.

Leahy remains in custody and is scheduled for arraignment at the King County Courthouse on Thursday, May 21.
